Meet more people online

When you’re online dating, you might go through a drought period – a time when no one messages you and/or you don’t meet anyone outside of the website. If you’re okay with that, that’s fine – but if you’re not, here are a few tips on how to make your profile more of a draw to potential matches.

First, check out what you’re wearing – if it’s something too revealing, people might be skipping over your profile and making unfair judgments about you. You don’t want that, so make sure whatever you’re wearing, it doesn’t show too much skin. Also, try wearing red, especially if you’re a woman! There have been studies that show men are more attracted to women wearing red than any other color.

Next, online dating expert Julie Spira suggests you change your settings on the website. Change your profile’s privacy settings. “You need to let him know you’re available and ready to meet,” Spira writes. Show you’re online and open up your live chat or instant messaging service. Doing these things will “make it easy for him to find you,” Spira says.

If your profile is very long and includes your whole life story, consider shortening it. If someone knows everything about you before they even message you, let alone before they meet you, they probably won’t be interested enough to message you in the first place. Write down enough about yourself that it’s expressive, but leave out things like how you’re reticent to commit after witnessing your parents’ divorce, or that you’re a total cat lady who owns 5 tabbies. These are details that can come out in the dating scenario, not beforehand.

Overall, the key here is being attractive, available, and interesting – three things that make you a great catch!
