Relationships come with all sorts of challenges and struggles. For this reason it is absolutely essential to learn to roll with the punches. I think women especially tend to get caught up in planning all the details of a date or romantic night and when things don’t go exactly right, it becomes a devastating experience. Here are a few pointers to keep you out of your own way and your relationship happy and healthy!

Stop Stressing the Small Stuff

This sounds simple, but it is absolutely not! I’m a pretty organized individual and there is little that upsets me more than when things don’t go as smoothly as I had hoped, but there comes a time when you need to just accept that life is not entirely in your control. There are always going to be variables that prevent things from going perfectly. It’s when you can laugh off the chaos and embrace the beautiful disaster in front of you that life gets more enjoyable.

Communicate Consistently

Communication is the foundation of a successful relationship. It is imperative that you talk about what’s on your mind; the good, the bad and the ugly. If you know your partner's fears, dreams and vulnerabilities you are able to work together. This is a much better approach than knowing only your own feelings and it will allow you to see the bigger picture. This will turn arguments into conversations and eliminate the need for insecurities and secrets.

Have a Little Faith in Each Other

These days, people let their fears and worries get in the way of everything. Maybe someone broke your heart in the past and now you’ve got some barricades up around your heart, preventing you from really letting someone in. You’ve got to move forward and stop dwelling on what could happen. You’re setting yourself up when you worry about where your partner is and what they’re doing. Just because one person let you down doesn’t mean that everyone else will. You need to give them the opportunity to prove it though. What’s the worst that could happen? You get your feelings hurt, right? Right, and while that’s a risk, at least you would know that someone wasn’t good for you as opposed to never finding out at all!

Stop sweating the details and start enjoying the little things in life. There’s no reason that our fears, nerves and bad experiences need to determine our futures. Every minute you spend in a negative mindset is a waste of time that you’ll never get back. Take each moment and try to make a positive out of it.
