People may think the being single during the holiday season is depressing, but that couldn’t be further from the truth! Christmas and New Year’s provide a great opportunity to try out new things and discover new sides to yourself. Here are the top 3 reasons why being single during the holidays is awesome:

Be The Life of The Party

Invitations to parties may be coming your way and being single is a great time to try out new outfits, new venues and find new people to mingle with. Not enough happening around you? Throw your own bash! Try something fun and unique instead of the same old routine like an ugly Christmas sweater party or movie party featuring some old classics. Toss in some desserts and some holiday spirits and you are sure to be the party everyone remembers years later. And being single means that you get to enjoy all aspects of the party and enjoy that feeling of accomplishment when it was a huge success.

Travel Time

Have some time off from work and no plans yet? Well, get out your suitcase because it’s time to cross some time zones! Traveling during the holidays can be stressful if you are trying to beat the rush and make it by a certain date, especially domestic routes in the States. But, if you choose somewhere a bit off the beaten path, you can avoid the crowds and have your own holiday adventure! Try something local or even in another country and watch for discounts to locales in places that are not in high demand this time of year. Plus, cruise ships often offer holiday discounts as Christmas gets closer to help fill empty spots. Travel somewhere you have never been before, meet new people and soak in the scenery during this magical time of year.

Be a Holiday Angel

Do your soul and your community some good by volunteering at a shelter, outreach or retirement center. Helping others during the holidays is an experience that you will never forget and being single gives you more time and choices to explore this opportunity. Sing Christmas carols to the elderly, pass out food in a soup kitchen, give some love to animals in a shelter or sort gifts for underprivileged children. Remember that it isn’t just the people being helped by the organization that are benefiting by your service. Those that are regular volunteers or employees also appreciate the help because then they can spend more time with their families due to your involvement.

Enjoy your singleness and the amazing holiday season with a fresh perspective. And while you are out and about, don’t forget to take a little time to pick out a present for yourself. I think Santa would approve.
