Los Angeles is unusual for a large city. It’s the most populous city in California, yet saw almost all of its growth during the 20th century, when people headed west to be a part of the burgeoning film industry. LA’s sunny climes and emphasis on entertainment provide a number of great date options for singles. Here are our favorite picks for Los Angeles singles at all price points.
Universal Food Trucks
Looking for an inexpensive yet unique lunch date idea? Between the hours of about 11:30 and 2:00, food trucks gather outside Bluffside Drive near Gate A at Universal Studios. You never know which trucks to expect, as the competition for parking spots is high. Bring a blanket so that after you and your date pick out your meals, find a shady spot for your impromptu picnic.
At the other end of the price range, there’s Urasawa, one of the most renowned sushi restaurants in the Los Angeles area. Be sure to save your pennies; meals can go for $350 a person or more. There is no menu; items are chosen by the season, and only the freshest and highest quality is served. Each piece of sushi is handmade by Chef Hiro for you. Go for the 6 o’clock seating for the most leisurely and relaxed meal.
Chef John Rivera Sedlar has created menus of Latin-inspired food. Each of the three rooms in the restaurant features a different, geographically-themed menu. For an especially indulgent treat, take your date there for one of the three tasting menus.
This bar is the perfect destination for single jazz and blues fans. There is live music several nights of the week. Share a high end bar snack like the Live Evil beef sliders or some crispy sweet potato fries.
Cinespia Cemetary Screenings
Every town seems to have movies in the park, but how many have movies in a historic cemetery? Every Saturday night, watch new and old classics in the Hollywood Forever Cemetery. Tall chairs are prohibited, so, leave the big lawn chairs at home. Buy your ticket online and get there early for the best seats. Be sure to bring a blanket and some snacks and maybe a thermos of cocktails (yes, alcohol is permitted!) for you and your date to enjoy while you wait for the show to start.
