It’s tempting to stretch the truth a little to make yourself look better in your online dating profile. But, those little white lies can undo your chances of romance success. Time to fact-check your profile. A few lies to avoid:
Lying About Your Height
Many men admit to doing this on dating sites, and many women say they hate it. This is one of the lies where, if you meet in person, you will be nearly instantly caught out unless you plan to wear elevator shoes. There’s no shame in being 5’8”. Some women (myself, for one) appreciate the guys who aren’t giants. Better to court one from the get-go than to come off dishonest when you meet.
Lying About Your Income
Even if you don’t get caught on this one, there is bound to be some fall-out from this sort of lie. For instance, are you going to keep up the illusion by bankrupting yourself paying for dates you can’t afford? No one likes a braggart, and that’s especially true with the brags are lies.
Using an Old Photo
While this is more of a lie of omission, it’s still a lie. And, like the height lie, this one will become apparent from the first second of your first date. All sorts of people with all sorts of appearances get dates and relationships.
Lying about What You Want
If you only want casual hook-ups, don’t pretend you are looking for a relationship. That makes you a douche. If you only want serious relationships, don’t pretend you are up for something casual. That makes you psycho. By being clear about your intentions, you can hook someone like-minded. Not only are your chances of getting the type of relationship you want better, it makes you a nicer, more respectful individual.
