Dr. Joy Browne, a dating and relationship expert with her own nationally-syndicated radio talk show, has written numerous books on life and dating and the acclaimed psychologist isn’t stopping anytime soon. Browne recently released a third edition of her popular Dating for Dummies book, and it the award-winning psychologist concentrates on helping single men and women find love online.

“Literally thousands of folks are out there just waiting to click or be clicked on,” Browne said. “You just have to know how and where to connect — and understand the ‘rules’ before you venture online.”

Looking for love on an online dating website? Here’s what Dr. Browne recommends.

Focus on a Few People

While it may be tempting to date as many people as possible Dr. Browne recommends online daters focus on one or two people at a time. “Beware of juggling too many people,” she says. “If you do find somebody who you think may be a keeper, both of you can agree to take your profiles off the Internet, allowing for a more normalized dating environment.”

Be Honest

When it comes to online dating, Dr. Browne believes that honesty is the best policy. The psychologist acknowledges that many, if not most, online daters lie about or exaggerate their age and weight. However, such practices only lead to embarrassment and disappointment when an online dating couple finally meets for the first time. Why base your relationship on a lie: If you’re a little overweight just say so, or past a photo reflecting your current weight. It’s much easier to be honest at the beginning of a relationship then to come clean weeks, or months, down the road.

Post Accurate Profile Photos

Honesty counts in photos too! Many singles already know that profiles with photos attract a lot more attention than profiles without. However, what these singles may not realize is that accurate, appropriate pictures are also important. Honesty counts in photos too! Browne advises that online daters most recent pics, not photos taken several years, or several pounds, ago. Overly sexy images are also a no-no. Guys and gals should both keep their clothes on if they want others to believe they are sincere about finding love. Browne believes that anything else may send the wrong message.

Dr. Browne is the author of many books on life and dating, including It’s A Jungle Out There Jane, Dating Disasters, and three editions of Dating for Dummies. View Dr. Joy Browne’s official website to learn more.
