Some dating experts or self proclaimed "pick up artists" tell guys that girls are attracted to "cocky but funny" fellas. While it does help to be humorous, the cockiness isn't that cute.

Maybe too many men have bought into this flirting technique so ladies have just grown tired of it. Perhaps guys just take it too far, coming off as arrogant and not funny at all. It may work on getting the attention of some girls, but a more gentlemanly approach is usually more appreciated.

Teasing a girl can be okay once an initial relationship has begun, but using it as a way to break the ice often makes men seem like jerks. Also, girls don't like guys who are full of themselves and the "cocky but funny" technique suggests men overly compliment themselves.

Pick up lines do have potential, but they border a fine line of being too cheesy and lame. Sincere compliments and common interests are often better ways to strike up a conversation.

Overall, ladies like respectful guys who have a good sense of humor. Whether you're chatting online or in person, think before you speak and forget the cocky attitude.
