Everyone seems to believe that chivalry is a way of the past, but it definitely shouldn’t be. There are certain things that a guy can say or do that not only make their significant other smile, but also feel more appreciated. We tend to pay attention to the little sweet gestures. Here are a few super-simple, chivalrous deeds you can do to make your girlfriend or wife feel extra special!

1. Hold the Door

It takes barely any effort since you’re probably going through the door as well. Take a minute and help your lovely lady out. This is not just limited to doors to buildings. Opening car doors is another really thoughtful and considerate gesture.

2. Pick up the Check

I’m not saying the girl in the relationship should never treat, but the majority of the time or at least in the beginning of the relationship the man should try to pay if he’s able. It’s a courteous way of eliminating the awkward attempts to split a tab.

3. Always Guide her down the Stairs

This is a really, really easy one guys. As a female, I can honestly say that I notice and love it when a guy takes the time to hold my hand or latch my arm in his while walking down the stairs. I’m definitely an independent woman and I can absolutely make it down the stairs myself, but it’s considerate and sweet. Especially for women like myself who spend most of their time in stilettos.

4. Surprise Her

This doesn’t have to be anything huge, but it will make a gigantic impression. Pay attention to the little things she loves and when she doesn’t expect it, surprise her with them. I had a guy who faked hating Valentine’s Day and bombarded me with big balloons and a giant card with my favorite candy and a bottle of my favorite liquor. That’s pretty simple and more silly than romantic, but I won’t forget it because it showed that he listened to what I like. That says a lot more than a box of chocolates and a bouquet of flowers.

5. Tell her she is Beautiful Often, and Mean it

This is a big one guys. There’s rarely a point where a nice reminder that you think we’re pretty or beautiful (your choice!) gets old. The truth is, there are plenty of days that we feel like a mess and we fake it. Those occasional reminders could make the difference between a really crappy day and a serious relief.
